All set for Vivo IPL 2018!!

The day 2 of IPL Auction 2018 comes to a close. One hell of a ride of two days, it was! 169 players were sold, 56 of them were overseas players, at a total $4,31,70,00,000.

Chirs Gayle had a surprising auction session. Considered one of the most destructive T20 batsman in the cricket world, the Caribbean went unsold twice before being bought by KXIP for a mere base price of Rs 2 crore. Gayle has always been a prominent figure in IPL history, and when his name went under the hammer for KXIP, everyone in the room applauded for not missing out such a great crowd puller in the IPL.

But the most expensive buy of this auction was Ben Stokes who was bought for Rs 12.50 crore by Rajasthan Royals. They also bought the costlies Indian by claiming JaydevUnadkatfor Rs 11.50 crore. Many uncapped Indian players, especially the wicketkeepers and spinners, got big money.

Not all teams bought the 25 players but they managed to have a balanced squad. But as HarshaBhogle said, “Most teams have a decent first eleven but in the IPL, your adaptability and back-up is tested. Look at the squads from that point of view.”KKR were the only team to have their money all spent and strangely, they were also the team to have the least number of players in the squad (19).

Manish Pandey and KL Rahul were bought for Rs 11 crore on Saturday. Uncapped Indian spinners also got big money when RR bought Gowtham for Rs 6.20 crore. Other big buys on Sunday were Sandeep Sharma to SRH for Rs 3 crore, Evin Lewis at 3.80 crore. Andrew Tye was bought by KXIP for Rs 7.20 crore. Indian U19 pacer ShivamMavi got Rs 3 crore from KKR.
